Dwellbeing podcasts- Part Two.
the rest of my 'Wanderings and Wonderings', so far...
As I wrote in my last post, it has been just under 18 months since I started recording my podcasts. I named the series ‘Wanderings and Wonderings’ and so far I have 13 ‘in the bag’. This is ‘Part Two’ of 2 posts on the subject as even to summarise them takes a bit of space and time. Just to repeat what I wrote in the last post- (for those of you who jumped into Part 2 without reading Part 1 first- that is a thing I often do too)- I have absolutely loved making each podcast and thank all the participants for both their openness in letting me into their homes and their generosity of time. Looking back to the summer of 2024, I remember wanting to create a podcast but worrying about how it would all work so I thought I would just do it; cue my unedited 20ish minute real chats with really interesting people in their homes, studios, on their favourite walks and more. These podcasts are no.8 through to no.13. The previous 7 are on the last Substack post.
One of the hand decorated walls in Sally’s place and a piece of her subverted art collection- I love the abundance and diversity of her collections. Sally and I are just 2 of the members of Whitstable’s own ‘Profanity Embroidery Group’ (PEG) so please don’t listen to this podcast if you find swearing objectionable.
I found this dolls house for sale in a local charity shop, the doors were wedged closed so I bought it without opening it- in this podcast we explore the contents together, when I got it back home. It felt a bit like an odd 1970’s children’s TV tale
I am going to ‘redo’ the house at sometime in the future- it should be easy enough as I trained as a Spatial Designer- think interior/exhibition/stage design, I just need to put it on my ‘to-do’ list. I think this is a reason why I love to be invited into peoples homes- I understand how space functions and can appreciate well-loved places.
I do offer interior design services, so if you want your home to be made more harmonious and beautiful I can help. My services start from one room to a whole house, offering basic decluttering, cleaning and redecorating to full interior reconfiguration of existing space with minor building works. Contact me here for more information or look at my design services at the website link here.
The view out the back of Amanda’s home into their beautiful town garden. Amanda is another member of PEG, so once again- do listen with caution!
Ali and I had to shelter in the polytunnel up at the walled garden whilst we were recording this podcast. The rain came down so hard it felt torrential but the podcast is quite atmospheric because of this.
All the walls in Trish’s home are covered in artwork, the collection being a mix of her own pieces and other peoples. Two of her wonderful pieces here tell a story of her grandad, traveling over to England from Ireland and meeting his future wife.
Will and I standing in the bright Winter sun up at Victory Woods near Whitstable, looking towards the distance at his land art. He has created a few legacy projects including living oak circle and avenue forms. Time will tell their stories.
I hope you have enjoyed having a synopsis of the stories I have been told. I love to give others a voice; often traditional platforms such as TV and radio have limited voices that frustrate me with their ‘sameness’. Here are real tales, of real life.
Do have a look at my website Dwellbeinglife and its ‘sister’ site Dwellbeingworks.
Also, I encourage you to join my Facebook group Dwellbeing Life to find out more about event happenings and dates etc.
Wishing you all a restful weekend where you may be able to catch up on any of these or the previous 7 podcasts. Enjoy. x
