Wanderings and Wonderings- 8

The joy full home of Sally- a bit of a giggle with some sweary bits- you have been warned.

Large lounging mermaid on back of chair, one of many in Sally’s house- all created by Annie of ‘Whitstable Tail’- another PEG (Profanity Embroidery Group) artist.

Frida Mer and LeeLou Mer- with her Multi-Pass from one of my favourite films- I am a ‘Fifth Element’ fan as you can hear as I squeal in delight as I recognise her!

A piece of Sally’s wonderfully embroidered pieces of art created for our PEG tenth anniversary last year. Postcards of this and others are available from PEG exhibitions. The two white objects below are vintage Avon fragrance bottles.

Squeaky rabbit in right hand corner of photograph- one of a few squeaky toys Sally has in her home, squeezing it loudly she says - ‘it just clears the air somehow and makes things lighter doesn’t it?’ The trapezing mice can also be seen in this shot- she doesn’t own any clowns...not one.

Squeaky lamb presiding on top of the tin, alongside a squeaky mouse, the ceramic lamb is also a vintage Avon fragrance bottle which still smells of the perfume it once contained.

Blue woman? I didn’t study art history- you can tell (!)- It is a subverted ‘Green Lady’ image. A great introduction to Sally’s taste- all things Edge. The wall behind is not covered in wallpaper as I originally thought but painted by hand using Venetian lime paint, the added gold leaf gave her room a treasure trove look.

In the room with the wired-in large disco ball hangs a gold ‘flapper’ shade on which must be the most intriguing and original curiosity cabinet! ‘Don’t look inside’, is an instruction I cannot follow- who could? On top of the cabinet is her bunny collection and model red telephone box.

This excellent and tiny piece of embroidery is by Mike Adams- also a member of PEG- this is based on Edvard Munchs’ ‘The Scream’.

‘Cardinal Cat’- this framed work is located low down on the wall as it used to be just above Dave the cats’ litter tray. Marley the house rabbit- from Bunny Village is remembered too as we look at her framed photo on the front window sill.

A piece of hanging driftwood art created by Sharon Cavalier hangs by this sparkly vintage crystal chandelier in the sunny conservatory. We chat about the ‘memory’ tree, also made by Sharon that is also on display in this space- sitting on a cabinet that houses some more curiosities.

Vintage French ‘gadget’, a ‘cure-all’ found at a shop on Standard Quay in Faversham, unable to not buy it, Sally had to carry it around the busy Hop Festival. It is an intriguing thing and pretty heavy!

Cactus collection in the conservatory- the one in the dolly head pot hasn’t done so well!

A lovely busy corner of the room- the deflating smiley balloons on the scales came from another of our PEG friends 50th ‘do’.

Another wall of Sally’s living room, Luna the toy rabbit is sitting on the back of the sofa, under the fab subversive artwork.

‘Sweet Jesus’- artwork on a skateboard- made by Haus of Lucy, a Brighton artist.

‘Sal 4 Bowie’ is graffitied at the back of the kiosk, in a big love heart, under the assorted miniature flyers made by the artist- again Haus of Lucy. Postcard at back is one of Paul Elliotts’ creations.
